Sly Stone

A Family Legacy of Funk, Soul, and History

Hailing from Vallejo, California, the Stewart family’s musical journey began in church and exploded onto the world stage through the revolutionary sound of Sly & The Family Stone. With timeless hits like “Everyday People,” “Stand,” and “Hot Fun in the Summertime,” Sly Stone changed the cultural and musical landscape forever. Today, that legacy lives on through his sisters, Vet Stone and Rose Stone forming the next evolution: Rose Stone & The First Family of Funk. As original members and direct descendants of Sly.

Honoring Sly Stone (1943 โ€“ 2025)

On June 9, 2025, the world lost a true icon. Sly Stone, born Sylvester Stewart, left behind a revolutionary body of work that will forever influence the music world. From his early days forming The Stewart Four with his siblings, to being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and honored at the Grammy Awards, Sly’s spirit lives on through every beat, lyric, and legacy performance.

Book Reviews

Vet looks back without regret, continuing to pray that her brother will find peace in this life. While not specifically about blues music, this book certainly gives readerโ€™s a look behind the curtain of stardom, a portrait that cries out the lingering question, “What price fame?”

Blues Blast Magazine

Vet has a new book out that I would encourage everyone here to read, that has even the slightest bit of interest in the subjects of music/history/culture. Her book is of course about her history as a member of Sly & the Family Stone. But more importantly it is a story about her journey over the past 10 years or so to “bend the curve of music history,” and to restore a sense of sanity to her family.
